English Mastiff grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the English Mastiff: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The short, dense coat is easy: a rubber curry brush once a week lifts dead hair and spreads skin oils. Shedding is moderate year round, with a heavier spell once or twice a year. Baths are needed only every couple of months, and a dog this size is far easier to wash outside with a hose or at a self-service dog wash.
Face folds and lips need more attention than the coat. Wipe the folds and around the mouth daily with a damp cloth and dry them well to prevent irritation. Trim nails every two to three weeks, since long nails change how a heavy dog stands and walks. Keep a drool towel by the door and another in the car.
