How much exercise does a Great Pyrenees need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Great Pyrenees enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Thirty to 60 minutes of moderate activity a day is enough for most adult Pyrs, ideally as steady walks plus time patrolling a safe, fenced area. They are not built for fetch, sprinting or long runs, and most show little interest in them. What they do enjoy is slow exploration, sniffing a new trail and lying outdoors in cold weather keeping an eye on their territory.
Walk on a lead or in a fully enclosed space. A Pyr's instinct is to widen its territory, and it can disappear over a hill with little concern for your recall. Fencing should be at least 1.5 to 1.8 m (5 to 6 ft) high with no gaps for digging. In warm weather keep walks to early morning and evening, and treat heavy panting, lagging behind or a constant search for shade as signs to stop and cool down.
