Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the English Toy Spaniel.
An adult of about 5 kg (11 lb) usually needs just 55 to 80 g of dry food a day, roughly half to three-quarters of a cup, divided into two meals. Because portions are so small, treats have a large effect: a 20 g cube of cheese can supply about a quarter of the day's calories. Weigh food on a kitchen scale and count every extra snack.
The flat face makes deep bowls awkward, so a shallow, wide dish lets the dog eat without pressing its nose into the bottom. Small kibble is easier to pick up and chew with crowded teeth. Wipe the face and folds after meals, as leftover food in the wrinkle above the nose causes soreness.
