Affenpinscher feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Affenpinscher.
An adult of about 4 kg (9 lb) typically needs 60 to 75 g of dry food a day, around two thirds of a cup, split into two meals. Because portions are so small, even a few slices of cheese or sausage in training can push a dog over its daily needs. Weigh food on a kitchen scale for the first few weeks until you know what the right amount looks like.
The undershot jaw and bushy beard make eating messy. A shallow, wide bowl and small kibble suit the face better than a deep bowl. Wipe the beard after meals so food does not sour in the hair, and wash the bowl daily. Many Affens guard their food, so feed them in a quiet spot away from other pets and children.
