Flatcoat puppies grow steadily and reach most of their adult height by 12 months, then fill out over the following year. Many breeders say the body finishes at about 18 months to 2 years, while the mind can take until 3 or 4 years. An 8-week-old puppy often weighs 5 to 7 kg.
Feed a large-breed puppy food and keep the puppy lean. Avoid long runs, repetitive jumping and hard landings until at least 12 to 15 months, and let the puppy set its own pace on walks. Swimming is an excellent low-impact activity for young dogs. Lameness that lasts more than a day or two is worth a vet check.
