Borzoi puppies shoot up in height, often reaching most of their adult stature by 12 months, and they look gangly and uncoordinated for a while. Chest depth, muscle and the full silky coat keep developing until about 2 to 3 years.
Keep puppies lean and avoid repetitive high-impact exercise. Free play in a secure area is fine, but steer clear of long forced runs and jumping from heights until the growth plates have closed. Long legs and bursts of wild play can lead to knocks and sprains, so have any limping that lasts more than a day checked by a vet.
