German Spitz are quick learners with a playful attitude. They enjoy short sessions with food or toy rewards and pick up tricks with real enthusiasm. They can also be independent and bored by repetition, so keep lessons varied and upbeat.

Barking needs a plan from day one. Teach a 'thank you' cue that ends an alert, reward calm behavior when people pass the house, and limit views of the street if the dog stands guard at the window all day. Socialize widely with visitors, children and other dogs from 8 to 16 weeks and beyond, so natural wariness does not turn into fear. Gradual alone-time practice helps prevent separation stress.
