Giant Schnauzer grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Giant Schnauzer: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The wiry coat sheds very little, but it still needs regular care. Brush and comb once or twice a week, paying special attention to the beard, eyebrows and leg furnishings, which tangle easily. Most pet Giants are clipped every 6 to 8 weeks; hand-stripping keeps the harsh texture and rich color but takes far more time and skill.
Clean the beard after meals to prevent odor and staining. Bathe every 1 to 2 months or when dirty, trim nails every 3 to 4 weeks and check the ears weekly, removing excess hair if your groomer advises it. Look over the toes and nail beds during every grooming session, because the breed is known for tumors in this area.
