How much exercise does a Neapolitan Mastiff need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Neapolitan Mastiff enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Adults usually need about 30 to 60 minutes of steady walking a day, split into two outings. Neos are not built for running, jumping or long hikes, and forcing endurance exercise can damage joints. They do enjoy slow sniffing walks, gentle games in the garden and simply patrolling the boundary.
Heat is a serious danger for such a heavy, short-muzzled dog. In summer, walk only at dawn or late evening, provide constant shade and water, and consider a cooling mat indoors. Heavy panting, a thick sticky drool, stumbling or dark red gums are signs of overheating: stop, move to shade, cool the dog gradually and call a vet.
