How much exercise does a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Greater Swiss Mountain Dog enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Adults need around 60 minutes of moderate exercise daily. Long walks, steady-paced hiking, carting and drafting, weight pulling in a properly fitted harness, and tracking all suit the breed. They are built for strength rather than speed, and they are happiest with a job to do.
Heat is a real limit. The dense coat and large body make warm weather tiring, so exercise at dawn or dusk in summer and carry water. Chewing, digging and pushy behavior point to too little activity; stiffness, lagging behind or heavy panting that does not settle within a few minutes of rest suggest too much.
