Irish Wolfhound feeding guide: how much and how often

Adult Wolfhounds usually eat about 600 to 900 g of a typical dry food a day, around 6 to 9 cups, though individual needs vary with size and activity. Many are not greedy, and some young adults are downright picky. Two or three meals a day are safer than one large meal.
Bloat is a serious risk in this deep-chested breed. Rest before and after meals, keep mealtimes calm, and do not let the dog drink huge amounts of water straight after exercise. Research on raised feeders and bloat is inconclusive, so talk with your vet about bowl height and feeding setup for your own dog.
Aim to keep your Wolfhound lean, with the last few ribs and the hip bones just detectable under the coat. Extra weight strains both joints and heart. The wiry beard around the mouth collects food and water, so a quick wipe after meals keeps the face clean and the floor drier.
