Tibetan Mastiff feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Tibetan Mastiff.
For their size, many Tibetan Mastiffs eat less than owners expect. A 60 kg adult often needs around 1,600 to 2,200 kcal a day, roughly 400 to 550 g of dry food (about 4 to 5.5 cups), split into two meals. Appetite may drop noticeably in hot weather and in some females during the annual heat cycle.
Keep the dog lean, since extra weight puts pressure on the joints of a heavy-boned breed. As with other large, deep-chested dogs, feed calmly, avoid strenuous activity around mealtimes and use a slow feeder for a fast eater. A sturdy, wide-based bowl at a comfortable height stops a big dog from pushing it across the floor; speak to your vet about bowl height if bloat is a concern.
