Maltese puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates
How fast a Maltese puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.
Maltese puppies are born weighing roughly 100 to 150 g, and most reach adult weight between 9 and 12 months. The fastest gains happen in the first four to five months; after that, weekly changes become small. Keep a simple weekly weight log: gains should be steady, and a puppy that stalls or loses weight for more than a week should be checked.
The adult coat arrives during growth too. Somewhere between about 9 and 15 months the puppy fluff changes texture, and this is when matting becomes relentless. Protect small legs as well: jumping off sofas and beds is a common cause of injury, so use ramps or lift the puppy down. A puppy that skips, carries a hind leg or refuses to jump should see a vet, since kneecap problems often show up in the first year.
