Italian Greyhound puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates
How fast an Italian Greyhound puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.
IG puppies are tiny, often under 1 kg at 8 weeks, and reach most of their adult height by 7 to 8 months. They fill out a little until about 12 months. Growth is quick but the bones stay fine, and the leg bones do not fully harden until later.
The most important thing during growth is protecting those legs. Fractures of the radius and ulna, the two bones in the forearm, happen most often between 4 and 18 months, usually from a jump off a bed, sofa or someone's arms. Use pet steps, keep the puppy off high furniture, and hold it securely against your body. A sudden lameness or refusal to put weight on a leg after a fall needs a vet visit the same day.
