A practical grooming routine for the Miniature Poodle: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The curly coat does not shed much, but loose hair gets caught in the curls and forms mats if you skip brushing. A slicker brush followed by a metal comb, three or four times a week, is the minimum for a dog kept in a longer trim. Work right down to the skin behind the ears, under the legs and on the chest, where friction tangles build fastest.
Most owners keep a practical short clip and book a groomer every 4 to 6 weeks. Poodles grow hair inside the ear canal, so ask the groomer to keep the ears clean and check them weekly for odor or redness. Nails usually need trimming every 3 to 4 weeks, and brushing the teeth several times a week is worth building into the routine, because small breeds tend to collect tartar.
