Sealyham Terrier grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Sealyham Terrier: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The traditional coat is hand-stripped: dead outer hairs are plucked out every few months to keep the jacket harsh and weatherproof. Most pet owners opt for clipping every 6 to 8 weeks, which is easier but softens the texture and can leave the white coat more prone to staining. Either way, comb the beard, leg furnishings and underside two or three times a week to stop mats forming.
Clean the beard daily after meals, trim hair around the eyes and between the pads, and check the ears weekly. Nails need trimming every three to four weeks. Brushing the teeth several times a week helps prevent the dental problems common in small breeds.
