How much exercise does a Parson Russell Terrier need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Parson Russell Terrier enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
An adult Parson needs at least 60 to 90 minutes of vigorous activity daily, and many would happily double that. Great outlets include running beside you on trails once fully grown, flirt pole sessions, agility, flyball, earthdog trials and scent work. Mental work tires them as much as physical effort does: 15 minutes of nosework can equal a long walk.
Recall is often the weak link, because once a Parson locks onto a scent it may not hear you at all. Use a long line in open country until recall is excellent, and check fences for gaps and soft spots where a dog could dig under. Signs of too little exercise include constant barking, digging and chewing; signs of too much include next-day stiffness, sore pads, or a dog that sits down and refuses to go on.
