How much exercise does a Norfolk Terrier need?

Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Norfolk Terrier enjoys and signs of too much or too little.

Around 45 to 60 minutes a day suits most adults, split into two walks plus play. Norfolks love sniffing, exploring hedgerows and games that let them use their terrier instincts, such as hunting for hidden toys. Earthdog trials, where dogs follow a scent through underground tunnels, are a great outlet, as are scent work and rally.

Keep them on a lead near roads, livestock and wildlife, as the urge to chase can switch off their hearing. Check fences at ground level too, because a determined Norfolk can dig underneath in an afternoon. A dog that is bored will often create its own entertainment in the flower beds.
