How much exercise does a Pug need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Pug enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Around 30 to 45 minutes of gentle activity a day suits most adult Pugs, broken into two or three short walks plus indoor play. They enjoy sniffing walks, short games of fetch, puzzle toys and simple trick training. A Pug is not a jogging partner, and long hikes are rarely a good idea.
Heat is the main danger. Walk in the early morning or late evening in summer, skip exercise entirely on hot or humid days, and never leave a Pug in a car. Use a harness rather than a collar, which presses on the windpipe. Loud rasping, a very wide curled tongue, gums turning dark red or blue, or refusing to walk are signs to stop, cool the dog in shade, and call a vet immediately.
