How much exercise does a Rottweiler need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Rottweiler enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
An adult Rottweiler needs about 60 to 90 minutes of activity a day, ideally split between two walks and some focused work. They are not built as endurance runners, but they have plenty of power and enjoy tasks with a job attached: carting, tracking, obedience, nosework, or carrying a light pack on a hike. Pulling a small cart is something many Rottweilers seem to find deeply satisfying, which makes sense given their past.
Under-exercised Rottweilers tend to invent their own jobs, such as patrolling the fence line, barking at passers-by or chewing door frames. Over-exercised ones, especially heavy adults on warm days, pant hard, lag behind and may be stiff the next morning. The breed copes poorly with heat, so walk early and late in summer and carry water.
