Rottweiler puppies grow fast. A pup that weighs about 5 kg (11 lb) at eight weeks can pass 30 kg (66 lb) by six months, and most reach full height at around 12 months. Filling out takes much longer: the broad chest and heavy head usually arrive between 2 and 3 years of age.
Feed a food formulated for large-breed puppies, which keeps calcium and energy at levels that support steady rather than rapid growth. Keep your puppy lean, avoid long runs on pavement or repeated jumping out of the car until the growth plates close at around 18 months, and use short, varied walks instead. Limping that lasts more than a day or two, or a puppy that is reluctant to get up, deserves a vet check, since joint problems caught early have more options.
