Scottish Terrier puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates
How fast a Scottish Terrier puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.
Scottie puppies are compact from the start, weighing roughly 2 to 3 kg (4 to 7 lb) at eight weeks and around 7 kg (15 lb) by six months. Most reach adult height by 8 to 10 months and fill out by a year. The adult coat texture develops gradually, and a first light hand-strip at 4 to 6 months helps encourage a hard coat.
Because their legs are short and their bodies heavy, discourage jumping off furniture and racing down stairs while they grow. In puppies between about 4 and 10 months, watch for swelling along the jaw, drooling, or pain when opening the mouth to eat, which can point to a jaw bone condition seen in Scotties and their close relatives, and see your vet if you notice any of them.
