Skye Terrier grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Skye Terrier: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The long coat is beautiful but needs regular work. Brush thoroughly once or twice a week with a pin brush and a wide-toothed comb, going right down to the skin, and pay extra attention behind the ears, under the legs and around the beard where mats form first. The coat is traditionally left long and natural, with trimming limited to the feet and hygiene areas.
Bathe every 4 to 6 weeks with a mild shampoo, then dry thoroughly before brushing out. Keep the hair around the eyes clean, and some owners tie it back with a small band to help the dog see. Trim nails every 3 to 4 weeks, look in the ears weekly, and brush teeth several times a week.
