Skye Terrier feeding guide: how much and how often

Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Skye Terrier.

A 14 kg adult typically needs around 170 to 210 g of dry food a day, roughly 1.75 to 2 cups, split into two meals. Skyes are only moderately active and put on weight readily if portions creep up, and every extra kilogram loads that long back. Check body condition by feel rather than sight, because the coat can hide a surprising amount of padding.

The long facial hair and beard dip into food and water at every meal, so a shallow, wide bowl and a quick wipe afterward save a lot of matting and staining. Some Skyes are picky. Offer meals at set times, lift the bowl after 15 minutes, and avoid tempting a fussy dog with extras, which usually makes the fussiness worse. If a normally good eater refuses food for more than a day, call your vet.
