Spanish Water Dog feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Spanish Water Dog.
Plan on about 220 to 320 g of a typical dry food a day for an adult, roughly 2.25 to 3.25 cups, depending on size and activity, with working and sport dogs at the higher end. Split it into two meals and adjust by body condition, which you will need to check with your hands, because the coat disguises both ribs and waist.
The curly beard traps food and water, so many owners use a deep, narrow bowl or keep the muzzle hair clipped short to stop meals leaving the face soggy and smelly. Wipe the muzzle after eating. Most Spanish Water Dogs are good eaters without being obsessive, and weight is easy to manage as long as exercise stays steady.
