Bearded Collie feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Bearded Collie.
Plan on roughly 250 to 330 g of dry food a day, about 2.5 to 3.25 cups, for an active 22 kg adult, split into two meals. Working dogs and very sporty pets may need more, while neutered adults on a quieter routine often need less. Judge condition with your hands rather than your eyes, because the coat can hide a lot of extra padding or a worrying lack of it.
The beard itself is a feeding issue. Every drink and meal soaks the whiskers, which then drip across the floor and can develop a sour smell or reddish staining. A bowl with a narrower opening keeps more of the face dry, and a quick towel wipe after meals helps. Many owners put a washable mat under the water bowl for this reason alone.
