Puppies grow at a moderate pace, reaching adult height at around 10 to 12 months and filling out by 14 to 18 months. The puppy coat is soft and loosely curled; it tightens and turns woollier as the dog matures. Many owners give a first full clip at around 6 months so the adult coat grows in evenly.
Build exercise slowly on growing joints, with plenty of free play and short swims, which strengthen muscles without pounding the legs. Socialization in these months matters more than anything, since an adolescent that has met few strangers can become suspicious of them.
