Puppies reach most of their adult height by 9 to 12 months, then broaden through the chest and head until about 18 months, and some males keep adding muscle past their second birthday. At 12 weeks most weigh 4 to 6 kg (9 to 13 lb), and at 6 months around 9 to 12 kg (20 to 26 lb).
Adolescence, roughly 6 to 18 months, is when dog-to-dog behavior often shifts. A puppy that loved every dog at the park may start to stiffen, stare or react on lead, so keep greetings short, controlled and positive through this stage. Physically, limit repeated jumping and sharp turns while joints develop, and see a vet if your puppy holds up a leg or skips on a back leg.
