Welsh Springer puppies grow steadily, reaching adult height around 12 months and filling out by 18 to 24 months. Adolescence can be long; plenty are still quite puppyish at two. The adult coat and feathering keep developing through this period.
Keep puppies lean, allow plenty of free play on soft ground, and avoid long forced runs until growth plates close at around 12 to 14 months. Socialization matters especially in this breed because of its tendency toward reserve: aim for many calm, friendly strangers between 8 and 16 weeks. A limp that persists or an eye that looks red or cloudy should be checked by a vet.
