How much exercise does a Staffordshire Bull Terrier need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities a Staffordshire Bull Terrier enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
An adult Staffy needs around 60 to 90 minutes a day, which can combine a brisk walk, a sprint session with a flirt pole and a few rounds of tug. They love games that involve their jaws, so a sturdy tug toy with a reliable 'drop' cue is one of the best tools you can own. Many excel at agility, rally and scent work.
They are sprinters rather than endurance athletes, and the short muzzle makes hot days tougher than for longer-nosed terriers. Scale back above about 25°C (77°F). Under-exercised Staffies turn bouncy, mouthy and destructive, while overworked ones pant hard and flop in the shade. Heavy panting that does not ease after rest, or any stumbling, calls for a vet.
