Tibetan Mastiff grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Tibetan Mastiff: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
Most of the year, brushing once or twice a week with a pin brush and a wide-toothed comb keeps the coat in good condition. The coat is naturally resistant to tangles and dirt, and many TMs have little doggy odor.
Once a year, typically in late spring or early summer, TMs blow their undercoat, shedding huge amounts over three to six weeks. During this time, daily brushing with an undercoat rake or a high-velocity dryer helps remove dead hair. Trim nails every 3 to 4 weeks, check the ears regularly, and clip excess hair between the pads to help with grip on smooth floors.
