Toy Poodles grow fast and finish early. Most reach adult height by 7 to 8 months and settle at their final weight by about 10 months. As a rough guide, many puppies weigh around half their adult weight at 12 weeks, although lines differ and a well-proportioned puppy matters more than an exact number.
Growth plates in the legs remain open for months, and fractures of the thin front legs are a well-known toy-breed accident. Discourage leaps off beds and sofas, carry your puppy down steep stairs, and add a ramp if the dog sleeps with you. A limp lasting longer than a day, or a leg held off the ground, is a reason to book a vet visit.
