Welsh Terrier health: what owners should know

Welshies tend to be robust and long-lived. Conditions seen include glaucoma and lens luxation (both eye problems), skin allergies, hypothyroidism and, occasionally, epilepsy.

Good breeders have eyes examined regularly and select healthy parents. At home, keep your dog at a healthy weight, check skin and coat during grooming, and watch the eyes. See a vet promptly if you notice a red, painful or cloudy eye, squinting, persistent scratching, patchy hair loss, or a seizure.
