Welsh Terrier feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Welsh Terrier.
Most adult Welsh Terriers need about 130 to 170 g of a typical dry food a day, roughly 1.25 to 1.75 cups, split into two meals. They are usually good eaters and skilled beggars, but a fit Welshie should have a visible waist and ribs you can feel easily.
Because they are energetic but small, their calorie needs can shift a lot between a lazy winter week and a busy summer one. Weigh your dog monthly and adjust portions by about 10 percent at a time. Serving part of the daily food in a puzzle toy suits the terrier's love of working for things and slows a fast eater.
The beard picks up water and food. A narrow, heavy water bowl reduces dripping, and wiping the beard after meals prevents staining and smells. A shallow, stable food bowl at floor level suits most dogs of this size.
