How much exercise does an American Staffordshire Terrier need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities an American Staffordshire Terrier enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Aim for 60 to 90 minutes a day. AmStaffs love games with a purpose: tug with clear rules, fetch, short bursts on a flirt pole, agility, or organized weight pull where the harness and loads are properly managed. Many enjoy swimming, though their dense build means some need a gentle introduction and a canine life jacket.
They are sprinters rather than marathon dogs and can overheat in summer, so watch for heavy panting and lagging behind. An under-worked AmStaff is often a destructive one: chewed skirting boards, dug-up lawns and zoomies at midnight. Durable chew toys and a daily training session help as much as physical exercise.
