Beagle puppies grow fast for the first five months and then slow down. A puppy of 8 weeks often weighs 2 to 3 kg, and by 6 months many are at 70 to 80 percent of their adult weight. Most reach full height at about 12 months and finish filling out through the chest by 15 to 18 months.
The main growth risk is the waistline. A chubby puppy looks sweet but loads developing hips and builds habits that are hard to undo later. Feed a puppy food made for small or medium breeds, check body shape every couple of weeks, and ask at each vaccination visit whether the weight curve looks right. A puppy that limps, avoids jumping or cries when lifted should be booked in with a vet rather than watched for a week.
