Basenji puppy growth: milestones and weight estimates
How fast a Basenji puppy grows, illustrative weight estimates and the limits of predicting adult size.
Basenjis grow quickly and usually reach adult size by 10 to 12 months, with a final filling out of chest and muscle over the next few months. Their growth is less problematic than in large breeds, but the teenage months bring a notorious chewing phase, often from about four to eighteen months, when cables, shoes and door frames are all at risk.
Crate training and a good supply of safe chews help a great deal during this stage. Weigh your puppy every couple of weeks and ask a vet about a youngster that seems unusually thin despite eating well, drinks far more than its littermates or has diarrhea that lasts more than a day or two.
