English Cocker puppies grow steadily, reach adult height at around 9 to 10 months and then deepen in the chest until about 14 to 18 months. A typical puppy weighs roughly 5 to 6 kg at 12 weeks. The adult coat and feathering come in gradually, and some show-line dogs are not in full coat until two years old.
Adolescence brings a jump in appetite just as growth slows, so this is when puppies often turn chubby. Keep the ribs easy to feel, and hold back on long jogs or repetitive jumping until growth plates close at around 12 to 14 months. Between about 6 and 18 months, recall and chewing can suddenly slide backward; consistent routines get you through it, and the phase does pass.
