Beauceron puppies shoot up fast and then spend a long time filling out. Males often weigh 25 to 30 kg by 6 months and approach adult height at 12 to 14 months, but keep adding muscle and bone until around 2.5 to 3 years. Their minds mature just as slowly, and a 2-year-old can still behave like an oversized teenager.
Protecting joints is the priority. Use a large-breed puppy food, keep your puppy lean, and avoid forced running, agility jumps and long hikes until growth plates close, usually by 18 months. Check the hind dewclaws regularly during this period, because they can catch on undergrowth and tear during wild play.
