Bedlington Terrier feeding guide: how much and how often
Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Bedlington Terrier.
An adult Bedlington of about 9 kg usually needs around 500 to 650 kcal a day, roughly 130 to 170 g of dry food (about 1.5 cups), split into two meals. Active dogs may need more, while less active or older dogs need less.
Because of the breed's known risk of copper storage disease, some owners and breeders prefer foods with moderate copper levels. If your Bedlington has been diagnosed or has a DNA result showing risk, your vet will guide diet choices. Keep treats moderate and monitor body condition, as extra weight hides easily under the coat.
The narrow, long muzzle and soft beard pick up food and water at every meal. A bowl with fairly steep sides, rather than a wide shallow dish, keeps more of the beard dry, and wiping the face with a damp cloth after eating stops staining and the musty smell that damp hair can develop.
