How much exercise does an English Bulldog need?
Daily exercise minutes, the activities an English Bulldog enjoys and signs of too much or too little.
Around 30 to 45 minutes of gentle activity a day, split into two or three short walks, suits most adult Bulldogs. They enjoy sniffing, a slow wander round the park and short tug games, but they are not built for jogging, long hikes or repeated fetch. In summer walk at dawn or late evening, and once the air climbs above about 25 °C (77 °F), keep outings very short and in the shade.
Watch the breathing rather than the clock. Loud, rasping panting, a tongue that turns wide and dark, or a dog that lies down and refuses to move means stop, find shade and rest. If your Bulldog ever has blue or grey gums, collapses, or cannot settle its breathing within a few minutes, treat it as an emergency and call a vet immediately. A harness is kinder than a collar for this breed because it keeps pressure off the throat.
