A practical grooming routine for the English Bulldog: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
The coat itself is easy: a rubber mitt or soft bristle brush two or three times a week lifts loose hair, and shedding is moderate all year with a little more in spring. A bath every four to six weeks is plenty. The real grooming job is the skin folds. Wipe the nose rope, facial wrinkles and tail pocket every day or two with a soft damp cloth, then dry them completely, because moisture trapped in those creases irritates the skin fast.
Some Bulldogs have a tight, screwed tail tucked into a deep pocket that needs careful weekly cleaning. Nails grow quickly on this heavy dog and need trimming every three to four weeks. Clean the ears when they look waxy, and brush teeth several times a week, since crowded teeth in a short jaw trap food. Redness, a sour smell or discharge from any fold is a reason to book a vet appointment.
