Foxhounds are hounds, and hounds eat. Most will clear a bowl in seconds and immediately look for more. A 30 kg (66 lb) pet Foxhound with a good daily run might need about 350 to 450 g of a typical dry food a day, roughly 3.5 to 4.5 cups, while a hound working through the hunting season needs far more. Pet hounds on less exercise put on weight quickly.
In kennels, hounds are traditionally fed together from long troughs, and many pet Foxhounds keep that competitive, gulping style. A slow feeder, puzzle bowl or kibble scattered on grass helps. Feed in a quiet spot away from other pets to avoid tension, and secure bins, shopping bags and worktops, because that nose finds everything.
Split food into two meals and avoid hard exercise straight after eating, as with other deep-chested dogs. A heavy, wide bowl that cannot be tipped over suits this enthusiastic eater.
