Brittany grooming: brushing, bathing and shedding
A practical grooming routine for the Brittany: coat care, baths, nails and ears.
This is one of the easier gundogs to keep tidy. The coat lies flat or slightly wavy with modest feathering, and a weekly session with a slicker or bristle brush is usually enough. Shedding picks up in spring and autumn, when two or three sessions a week keep hair off the sofa.
After fieldwork, check the coat for burrs, the ears for grass seeds and the pads for cuts. Grass awns are a real hazard for any dog that runs through long vegetation, and a Brittany that suddenly shakes its head or holds up a paw after a walk may have picked one up and needs a vet to look. Bathe only when dirty, and trim nails every three to four weeks.
