Training a Komondor: what works and what to expect

Komondorok were bred to decide for themselves, so they tend to weigh up a command before following it. Calm consistency, short sessions and fair rewards work best, along with respect for the dog's independence. Harsh methods backfire badly and can damage trust for good.
Socialization is the priority. Introduce puppies to many people, places and friendly dogs from the start, and keep going through adolescence, so the dog learns what normal life looks like. Even with good groundwork, expect an adult that guards its home and family. Guests should be introduced by you rather than walking in unannounced.
