Labradoodle feeding guide: how much and how often

Daily calories, portions by age and practical feeding tips for the Labradoodle.

A standard Labradoodle of around 25 kg usually needs roughly 280 to 380 g of dry food a day, about 3 to 3.8 cups, depending on activity and metabolism. Mediums may need 180 to 260 g and miniatures closer to 100 to 150 g. Base portions on the adult weight of your individual dog, not on a size label from the breeder.

Many inherit the Labrador's famous appetite, so weight creep is common. Measure food with a scale, count training treats and check body condition monthly. Under a fleecy coat you can't judge weight by eye, so run your hands along the ribs: they should be easy to feel beneath a thin layer of padding, with a visible waist when you part the coat.

Fast eaters benefit from a slow feeder or a puzzle toy. Long facial hair drags through water and food, so a shallow bowl and a quick wipe of the beard after meals keep the face clean and prevent a damp, smelly muzzle. Two meals a day suit most adults.
