Training a Labradoodle: what works and what to expect
How the Labradoodle learns, common training challenges and what motivates it.
Most Labradoodles are quick, willing learners that respond enthusiastically to food, praise and play. They shine in obedience and trick training and often do well as therapy dogs. Positive, reward-based methods suit them best, and short daily sessions of 5 to 10 minutes produce fast results.
Common challenges are jumping up, mouthiness and pulling on the lead, usually driven by excitement rather than defiance. Teach a sit for greetings, reward calm behavior and provide plenty of chew toys during teething. Practice short separations from early puppyhood, since this very social dog can struggle when left alone for long periods.
