Leonberger puppies grow at a remarkable rate, often reaching 30 to 40 kg by six months, yet they take two to three years to finish maturing. Males in particular fill out slowly, gaining chest, mane and muscle into their third year. Your dog will look nearly adult while its bones and joints are still developing.
Feed a food designed for large or giant breed puppies to support steady rather than rapid growth. Avoid long walks, jogging, repeated jumping and stairs in the first 18 months, and let the puppy set its own pace in free play on soft ground.
