Kuvasz puppies grow at a startling pace, and many weigh 20 to 25 kg by five months. Height is usually close to adult by 12 to 15 months, but the chest keeps deepening and muscle keeps building, so most dogs do not look finished until two or even three years. Mental maturity arrives late too, and adolescence often brings a phase of testing rules and guarding more intensely.
Protect developing joints by keeping puppies lean, avoiding forced running on hard surfaces and limiting repeated jumping or long flights of stairs. Short, varied walks and free play on grass suit them best. Have a vet check any limping that lasts more than a day, swelling around the elbows or knees, or a puppy that is reluctant to get up and move.
