Lakeland Terrier feeding guide: how much and how often

Expect an adult Lakeland to need roughly 90 to 130 g of dry food a day, about 1 to 1.3 cups, split into two meals. Very active dogs doing agility or long hill walks may need more, and a quieter older dog less. Most are keen eaters that will happily accept extra, so measure with a scale rather than a scoop.
Using part of the daily ration for training is an excellent fit for this breed. Lakies respond quickly to food and love games that make them think, so a few kibbles thrown for a find-it game or hidden in a snuffle mat turn a meal into mental exercise. Keep treats tiny, since a 7 kg dog doesn't need much extra to put on weight.
The beard collects food and water. Wiping it after meals prevents staining and smells, and a shallow stainless steel bowl is easy to keep clean. Feed dogs apart if more than one terrier shares the house, since squabbles over food can start quickly.
